A Sunday Drive With Somewhere To Go

Complete tranquility.
Winding roads, unpaved and uncertain.
Escaping the city-feel of the city.
The smell of cows, sunshine, and mountains.
Windows down, peruvian music floating throughout.
Random pit stops. Simple roadside drink stands and friendly herds of goats.
Colors colliding with every opportunity, a natural display of The Creator's perfected artwork.

Arrival to the most peaceful, anonymous town.
Hidden among the crevices of the towering mountain shadows,
The pueblo of Quives sits quietly, guarding its Holy secret.
A tiny stone house and a modest looking chapel.
Neither extravagant nor extraordinary.

Still standing proud, the childhood home and memories of Saint Rose of Lima.
All wrapped up into the most humble of locations.
The founder of Social Work in Peru and a true example of a zealous Christian woman.
Santa Rosa, an inspiration for me, a reflection of Peru’s unique beauty.
Honored to kneel in her home, pray where she prayed, and mingle in her quaint neighborhood.

An unofficial Peruvian pilgrimage, if you will.

Some like the idea of a Sunday drive without a destination.
I’d say our destination was just about perfect.
A Sunday drive with somewhere to go.
A trip with a purpose.

Oh Dearest Saint Rose of Lima, Peru,
Help me in all I say and do,
To follow Christ more closely,
And grow to be more like you.

I thank Saint Rose, my Confirmation and Patron Saint, for guiding me and protecting me throughout my semester in her beautiful homeland of Lima, Peru.

So. Extremely. Blessed.
